Uploading Your Pictures

Upload digital images to your or your child's Tikatok account from inside the Book Maker by clicking the "Add Picture" button, or add them from the My Pictures page. Pictures must not be larger than 4MB and must be in jpg or png format. Be sure to crop and rotate images if necessary before uploading to Tikatok.

If you have drawings and illustrations on paper and would like to add them to a book, first you need to turn them into digital images. There are a few ways to do this:

With a Scanner

  • Use a home scanner to capture digital images of your illustrations.
  • Pick a resolution setting that will give you a file size of around 2-3 MB.
  • For a letter-sized image, this should be around 150 or 200 dpi.
  • Set the color setting to the highest number of colors.
  • If possible, crop the page to capture just the image itself.
  • Save your file to the jpg format.

With a Digital Camera (may not provide the best results)

  • Pin each drawing at eye-level to a wall that has sufficient, even light (the best light is indirect sunlight).
  • Stabilize your camera with a tripod if possible, or make sure the shutter speed registers at 1/100th of a second or faster.
  • Use the highest quality image settings that your camera will allow. When transferring files to your computer, save them in jpg format. Each image file should be around 2-3 MB in size. Make adjustments with your image transfer software as necessary.
